Many publishers have been preparing educational
material to assist parish in learning [about] the New Translation of the
Roman Missal. What follows is a short excerpt form material
published by Liturgy Training Publications – a very reputable
organization and highly recommended by our diocesan leadership:
All of the prayers we say in English have
corresponding Latin text. After the Second Vatican Council, the
Latin texts were translated into the vernacular, or common language, of
particular regions. The first English translation of The Roman
Missal was completed quickly in 1969. It aimed for a “spirit” of
the texts rather then an exact literal translation of the Latin words.
A second revision of these texts occurred in 1975.
In 2001, the Congregation for Divine Worship and
the Discipline of the Sacraments, the liturgical commission in Rome,
issued a document outlining the methodology and process for translating
liturgical texts into vernacular languages. This document,
Liturgiam Authenticum, called for a more literal translation of the
original Latin, and so a group of scholars, poets, and theologians
convened and worked painstakingly on providing a third English
translation. The Congregation for Divine Worship and the
Discipline of the Sacraments announced recognition on April 30, 2010.
These texts will be implemented on November 27, 2011, the First Sunday
of Advent.

Because of the great need at
this time and because so many are out of work and suffering, we
are continuing to collect nonperishable food
for the Food Pantries. The need is great and the supply is dwindling.
This drive provides a chance for us to engage
in one of the corporal works of mercy -
feeding the hungry. Please bring all food donations and
deposit them in the vestibule of the church. At Holy Family,
there is still a need for Socks for the Homeless. If you think
of it, please bring sock donations to the
vestibule as well. Those who are in need are
grateful for your Christian generosity.
Do you have an intense desire to share your faith
with your parish community? We are starting a parish newsletter
and are looking for volunteers to contribute essays, poetry, and other
original writings. We are also looking for people interested in
interviewing fellow parishioners to help record the history of St.
Christopher. For more information, contact Jeanette Ferguson (nettypoho@hotmail.com).
Please join us on Tuesdays for 30minutes of
singing, Scripture, and intercessions. Evening Prayer is agreat way to
enter into the evening after either a discouraging or a triumphant day.
All are welcome whenever you can come.
We have a core of faithful distributors who take
the fruit of our Sunday Mass to them: praying, reading the Scriptures,
and giving Eucharist. We need a larger group so that we can spread out
the responsibility for meeting the needs of our fellow parishioners. We
are inviting current Eucharistic distributors and all adults of the
community to contact Deacon Gregg (486-0457, ext. 29 or
TheDeke@sbcglobal.net) to
join this ministry.
A shelter for abused women and
women in need, is looking for sheets for twin size beds. Deodorant items
have also been requested. Please place items in marked bags in the
vestibule of the church. Rebecca’s Place is a parish-sponsored charity.
Thank you for your Christian generosity. If you wish to
make a donation, please call parishioner Elaine DiSalvo (486-5543)
More information about Rebecca's Place can be found
